Dear colleagues,

Apologies for not getting in touch with you before regarding this
working group.

In the past few weeks I have been looking at opportunities for the
Council and in particular the Culture and Education Working Group to
weigh in on regional initiatives in the area of Culture and Education.
As such, I have taken the liberty of contacting Helen Tavola at the
Forum Secretariat to provide scope for the Council to be actively
involved in the review of the Forum Basic Education Plan. Helen has
formed a reference group to guide the review which is going to meet on
June 24th in Suva. I have asked Dr Viliami Fukofuka to attend this
meeting on behalf of the Culture and Education Working Group and he has
kindly agreed.

As in the case of the other working groups, I would also humbly like to
suggest that one of the members be designated to lead the working group.
In addition, as during the Council meeting we did not really establish
'tasks' for this working group, I am asking you if we could do this
together.

We can use this electronic forum to determine together what areas we
need to focus on.
In addition to impacting on regional educational initiatives, there may
be specific areas that we need to initiate studies on, or certain
initiatives that we should support.

Many thanks and best regards,
Elise
