Celebrate Earth Day 2010 with a Pacific feast of art and culture including visual Art, dance and music.

OCACPS invites your support of an Art event to be held at the Pearl South Pacific Resort, Fiji. 

This year make a difference by celebrating Earth Day in true Pacific Style. Come and support Pacific Artists in the islands and reaffirm our connectedness to the land and sea by partaking in a multi-media feast of events that will confirm the abundance of talent our region has to offer. 

The arts and art development are not often supported or understood in the Pacific. Contemporary Art development however, is thriving with artists themselves initiating their growth. 

As one of the leading Pacific institutions responsible for the development of the arts and artists, the Oceania Centre is pleased to announce its first corporate art outreach event which coincides with International Earth Day and features the launch of the Oceania Dance Theatre and the NewSounds ensemble which will be showcased in Shanghai at the World Trade Show in May 2010. It also includes an art exhibition comprising  art works selected from the Oceania Centre Private Collection by Pacific artists from Fiji, Kiribati, Solomon Islands, and Tonga as well as the art works of a few budding new local talents. 

We are of the view, that it is only by calling on Corporate sponsors and friends of the arts that a viable arts industry may thrive within the Pacific islands. By organizing such events, we hope to raise funds to assist in the professionalization of the arts to enable training and production opportunities for emerging Pacific artists. In this way, artists may be able to earn a dignified income from their creative works. 

The event will begin at 7.00 pm at the Pearl South Pacific Resort and carries a cover charge of $10. 

Tickets may be reserved at the Pearl South Pacific Resort on telephone 345 0022 or at the Oceania Centre, USP on oceania at usp.ac.fj. An arts package is available upon inquiry at the resort for those interested in spending the night. 

EARTH DAY 2010: April 22, 2010 marks forty years since the initial Earth Day demonstrations of 1970 which culminated in tremendous grassroots response to the cause which was sustainable and responsible development of the environment and economies. 

TANGATA FENUA. TANGATA MOANA is an attempt to engage the art community in contextualizing earth day into a Pacific event that carries similar messages of sustainability.
