Dear all -
To join with the 'Carbon Cowboys in Vanuatu' piece that I forwarded on to
many of you a few days ago, I am now forwarding this relevant article from
the *Sydney Morning Herald* of 4th September 2009 relating to a number of
alleged 'carbon trading' scams in PNG. I had already forwarded this to some
of you when it came out, but it is worthwhile reading again - and this time
I am also forwarding it to more people. I will follow this soon with another
linked article that came out in the same newspaper on the same day.
All Pacific islanders living on well-forested islands should be made aware
of the kind of potential misuse of these sorts of projects which can not
only adversely affect land, livelihood and culture, but can do so at the
expense of Pacific islanders themselves (it is the foreign organisers who
usually benefit the most financially)!
Kind regards,
Kirk
